Kids Fun Run and Diaper Dash
In an effort to increase family health, we
have added a race for the children. The American Heart Association reports
alarming increases in childhood obesity in the USA. Obesity is also
significantly linked with a history of sexual abuse. So, we want to encourage
children, even those at an early age, to become involved with aerobics. And we
want to make it fun. So this will be a non-competitive event where all children
will receive a microfiber Bashful Ostrich hat and a medal for completing the
race. And they can come to Papa Joe’s concert at the post-race party to hear the
worldwide debut of his song, Bashful Ostrich, and his other funny songs
including Quack, Quack, The Cow Song, I Like Turtles, and Honey Nut Cheerios.
There will be two divisions:
9:45 AM – Kids Fun Run
– About 1 K. OK, so it’s not a USATF certified course: this is for fun! Starts
in front of the main building and goes around the building to end in the
official finish line.
9:50 AM – Diaper Dash
– About 100 yards. For those aged two and under. Parents may assist those under
one year, if the child cannot walk yet. Also, children older than two may also
run or walk in this event if they so choose. This is non-competitive and fun!
Starts on the path near the south end of the parking lot in front of the main
building.
If you want to walk with your child in a
stroller and then have your child participate in the diaper dash, you should
plan to finish before ten o’clock.
To participate
in either the Diaper Dash or the Kids Fun Run, each child must complete a race
application, which must be signed by the parent. Each child will have a bib
number. There is no formal fee for either of these events, but the suggested
donation is $10 to defray expenses (prizes, food, entertainment) and help our
charities. If you have a number of children, you can pay whatever you wish. Each
child will receive a Bashful Ostrich hat and a finisher’s medal when they cross
the finish line. THE ENTRY FORM FOR THE CHILD MUST BE MAILED.
